Want a marketing film made by someone who really knows education? I was a preschool and kindergarten teacher in China for five years at an IB international school. From 2011-2016 I was able to experience, first hand, what it was like to be an educator. In doing so, I was also able to recognize those special moments that every student has in the classroom. When doing a film for a school, patience and anticipation are the keys to knowing what to shoot and when. No matter the subject, my films showcase the students in a genuine and natural environment. I use my 20 years of film making experience and knowledge of education to capture real moments and that comes across in all of my films.

Here are three films that I made for Crossroads College Prep. They are about one minute long each. These stories were not scripted in any way but were very intentionally planned. They are authentic stories told by the students themselves. During the interviews I asked some very broad questions to dig and see what each student was passionate about. Once that was identified I followed the students around for about two weeks to capture all the moments I would need to tell their story. Finding what they were passionate about was critical to ensure every moment in the film was real and authentic. I was on their schedule, so it was important to communicate with the students about what was happening for the week. I always work really hard to gain everyone's trust so they feel relaxed and are able to be themselves.

"John Lore immediately connected to the vision we had for our project, and from a few conversations he was able to create several films that told powerful, unique stories of our community. He had ideas we could never have envisioned that brought thoughtful perspective and artistry to the work. John is highly creative, an incredible editor, and a warm and affable professional. I have already recommended him to many, and would so enjoy working with again."
This film is led by the head of school, Alexis Wright, as he describes the four pillars of education. The focus of this film is to give an overall insight into the campus and to get a feel for New City School's approach to student learning. We also see what P.A.T.T.A.N. is and why its a cherished part of New City School life. This film is great to show at parent events and online to prospective parents on social media.
The music for this film is custom made from loops. This gives us a lot of room to play when it comes to editing the length of the film. By making custom music for each film, I also have the ability to deliver different running times of the same film. You could have a four minute film for an upcoming live event and a 45 second version for TicTok or Instagram, both using the exact same music while having a beginning and an end. Its just like having a composer make music for your film. I can use the dynamics of the music to highlight parts of the film. Instead of music being just a sound in the background, my films music is made to compliment the story. I do this for all my films and comes included in all packages.

"John worked with us to film and produce a video for us to use with our admissions process, and the end result was outstanding! John was easy to work with and most importantly, after a short period of time, he really understood the culture and ethos of the school and our mission, which led to an inspiring video which captures the heart and soul of a New City School education."
This film is used for promotional materials and marketing of their new Summer Series Program. This film was a huge success and increased enrollment of Branksome Hall Asia's summer camp. The uniqueness of this film it that it tells a cohesive story while showcasing the many classes and activities offered.
Being comfortable interviewing people is one of my strengths. My strong interpersonal skills help faculty and staff feel comfortable allowing them to open up and say things that are useful to the project. Incorporating student voice can also be a very powerful marketing tool. Interviewing children always makes some of the most unique and special moments of a film.
This film is more of a documentary format. I was tasked to make a film that covered all the events from this two week exchange program between Branksome Hall Asia and their sister school in Canada, Branksome Hall. The film follows the Canadian students as they explore South Korea and how they worked together with the Korean students to design and build a portable windmill. This type of film is perfect if you have an event or activity you want to be captured.
This was a total blast! We had to do everything in one take (well sort of, there is one cut from the library to the auditorium). It took us five tries to get it right but the students were buzzing with excitement each time we recorded. This film was used as branded content for Branksome Hall Asia's social media campaign. Since I use a gimbal in all of my films, these long take shots are a snap.

"We were so grateful to have John’s help with us to support our marketing efforts at Branksome Hall Asia. John has a tremendous talent and is able to capture incredible moments that can then be shared within the broader community.
John’s work ethic is exceptional and he always meets deadlines. Most importantly, however, the quality of the videos that he produced for us were incredible. Through his work, he helped us to shift the perception of our school from one of an arts school, to a broad-based high achieving academic institution. I recommend John to you without reservation."
